About Volunteering

About this page

The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) coordinates three volunteer programs. Each program is different, but they all provide comprehensive training and support, and provide an invaluable service to the community.

Are you looking for a volunteer role with real power to improve the lives of people with a disability?

Want to defend the human rights of vulnerable people in your community?

Keen to improve the standard of care and treatment for people with a mental illness?

Become a volunteer with the OPA. You can:

  • monitor the standards of care provided to people with disabilities and/or mental illness
  • support people with a cognitive disability or a mental illness when they are giving formal statements or being interviewed by police
  • be a guardian for someone with a decision-making disability in our community.
