Message from the Public Advocate: Announcing my retirement

What a wonderful start to 2024 we’ve had, and I want to share that this will be my final year as Victoria’s Public Advocate.

After 17 fulfilling years of service in this position, I have decided that it is time for a change. This decision was not made lightly, but it reflects my deep satisfaction with the progress we have collectively achieved for and with people with disabilities in Victoria.

It has been a great privilege to serve as the Victorian Public Advocate, and I am grateful for the opportunities this role has presented. I hope that my contributions have played a part in improving the human rights of people with disabilities in our state.

I have officially submitted my resignation to the Attorney-General, with the intention of retiring in October 2024.

The appointment of a Statutory Officer, including my replacement as the next Public Advocate, is the responsibility of the Attorney-General. I will keep you informed about any updates about the process to appoint a new Public Advocate as they come to hand.
